Spiral Beach The Golden Hands Before God The Horseshoe in Toronto, Ontario on November 11, 2008 Full Photo Set (19 photos) Even though I couldn't stay to see the full set by Sam Roberts, the night worked out well because it meant I was able to make it down to The Horseshoe to catch sets by The Golden Hands Before God and Spiral Beach. Spiral BeachThe one and only other time I've seen Spiral Beach perform was at Virgin Festival this year, and they played to a rain-poncho covered crowd that was much smaller than it would've been had the weather been good. And although it's difficult to compare numbers, The Horseshoe was packed right up to the stage for this set. I'm still a Spiral Beach newbie. Although I really like that one 60's pseudo psychedelic song Made Of Stone, I really don't know their other material, but it turns out to consist of what you might call rock-synth-thrash. The band and fans fed off the energy of each other in a feedback loop that ultimately resulted in wild synchronized jumping and mild slamming (probably the best insane crowd I've had the pleasure of being knocked around by). It's hard not to use the adjective "fun" when describing this band simply because that's just the kind of band they are, and also the kind of fans they pull.Info: Spiral Beach | Connect: MySpace, Facebook Media: Made Of Stone (mp3, video), Kind Of Beast (mp3, video) The Golden Hands Before GodLet's see, what I have written about The Golden Hands Before God in the past? I've seen them three times now, once at the Rancho Relaxo, once at The Savannah Room, and now once at The Horseshoe. It's fair to say that although each set has had a different vibe, the psychedelic-rock jam-band euphoria that emanates from the stage each time has been consistent. It's impossible not to watch Jamie Greer, who plays the tambourine vigorously. In fact, if I remember correctly, he's even had a tambourine playing accident that resulted in a bloodied hand. Could that be the reason for the protective black glove this time around?Info & Connect: The Golden Hands Before God on MySpace, Facebook |
